Deconstructing my faith and healing my traumas has been the hardest and most liberating journey of my entire life.
The childhood trauma of needing to keep up appearances, of treating myself as a wretched sinner in need of saving, and conditioning myself into silence in order to be the “good girl” made it so that I did not even know who I truly was.
I played the role that everyone else expected of me and I did it so well. But inside I was slowly suffocating. My body had itchy eczema and my nervous system was stressed out, overwhelmed and dysregualted.
My body was trying to communicate to me. I wouldn’t keep it up any longer. I needed to get out.
Complex Trauma is the process of disconnecting from yourself in order to gain safety, belonging, community and/love.
Healing is the process of reconnecting back to and integrating all the parts of ourselves we lost along the way.
And I’m so glad I found her again. I really like who I’ve become. 🥰 --Tara Teng
This Week on the Podcast:
Tara Teng, an Embodiment Coach who works in the intersections of spirituality and sexuality, is our guest this week. Tara helps people find their way back to their bodies, overcome shame, heal trauma and dismantle purity culture in a way that is in alignment with their values and beliefs so that they can build a healthy, sexual ethic and thrive in freedom and wholeness. On this episode, we explore the ways we have been separated from our bodies and consequently from each other and why that is so damaging to us. We also venture into what we can do now to become fully embodied so that we can heal and also how this works in the tricky tightrope of parenting and deconstructing and ways we can encourage embodiment in our kids.
Tara, like Esther, is an Enneagram Eight and her passion for restoration and justice is empowering and enlightening. When you listen, her fierce tenderness will awaken your heart and it perhaps ignite a fire inside your soul. It sure did for us!

Esther had the immense privilege of being a guest on the Deconstructing the Myth Podcast. Esther shares her story of growing up as a missionary kid who is now a deconstructed adult. She shares her experiences and wisdom about how to navigate a shifting faith in light of being a parent and someone who receives criticism for her public deconstruction platforms. We have such a great chat in store for you!
