For a long time, we thought faith was supposed to be simple.Clear. Certain.

Right or wrong.

In or out.

That’s what we were taught, after all — that there was one right answer, one right way to believe, one right way to raise our kids.

But the older we get, the more we see how small that kind of faith feels. How often the need to be right squeezes out love. How often certainty silences curiosity.

When everything started to unravel, we didn’t lose faith. We just began to wonder if there was more. More space. More nuance. More mystery.

This is what we mean when we talk about walking the middle path. It's the brave and beautiful practice of living a both-and life — one that holds complexity without collapsing into despair.

Where truth and doubt can sit at the same table.

Where we can grieve and hope, believe and question, love God and still get angry at the church.

It’s not an easy way to live.

We’ve lost belonging in some spaces that once felt safe.

But we’ve gained a faith that can breathe — a faith that makes room for paradox, pain, and possibility all at once.

In our next episode of Deconstructing Mamas, coming out Tuesday, October 21, we talk with Dr. Camden Morgante, psychologist and author of Recovering from Purity Culture, about what it really means to walk this middle path after high-control religion and control-driven parenting.

Together we explore curiosity over certainty, compassion over control, and what it looks like to find wisdom — not just knowledge — in the tension between.

If you’ve ever felt too “progressive” for your old church and too “spiritual” for your new circles, we see you. You're not lost. You’re just learning to walk the sacred middle — the path where love is big enough to hold it all.

One last thing. We want to remind you that we are so glad you are here. We wouldn't be the same without you. You will always find GRACE for where you've been and who you are now, and SPACE for who you are becoming and will be.

Carry on, our new-found friends. Welcome to the twisty-windy, full -of-adventure faith path that's laid out before us all.

Love,

Lizz & Esther
